» About
Hey, my name is Oswald Bowman. I am 17 and I go to Brooklyn Academy for Science and the Environment (B.A.S.E.) High School. I am now a senior and enjoy taking part in my school activities, such as student government and school ambassadors. I have done environmental studies in the Florida Everglades and the Adirondack Mountains. I am even a member of my school's track team. I have worked for the Nature Conservancy and battled invasive species. My school, B.A.S.E., has a partnership with Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. From since I was a freshman, the park has become a necessity of everyday life. That is where I do projects, have meetings, train for track, hang out with friends, and my school even has prom in the park.
This summer, I have joined up with Transportation Alternatives and become a Park Advocate. My reasons for joining are obvious, in that I believe Prospect Park should be car-free. I love nature; it is beautiful and to see it riddled with big hunks of metal displeases me. By working with T.A., I finally get the chance to speak out, make change, by making the park more enjoyable and livable for everyone. I am looking forward to of course getting the cars out, but in the process, speaking to strangers, hosting BBQs and other party-like events, even harassing elected officials. I can't wait to dress up as silly characters of the park and play out what I want. Most of all, I want people to know our cause, and while working with T.A. I could do all that. So if you see me, please sign a postcard.
