What I Learned This Summer: The Youth Advocates Reflect on a Job Done Well -- Part 3

The day of our rally was a great day; one of the best. Our big event finally happened, the rally at City Hall. All our efforts and dreams were poured into this rally pot. Tension and static were in the air; for it was the day we would bring it to Bloomberg. We began the march at the Brooklyn Bridge (Brooklyn side, home sweet home). We were accompanied by few of my friends from Brooklyn Academy for Science and the Environment, plus students from Freedom Academy High School, Edward R. Murrow High School and ACORN Community High School, the phenomenal Brooklyn Steppers Marching Band and the powerful T.A. staff.

I am on TV and Everything is Looking Car-Free

Today, this 28th of August, we set out on another adventure of finding our supporters in their corners of Prospect Park. As our march to Bloomberg approaches, and the threat of rallying all by ourselves looms over us, it is even more essential for us to bring people to our event. Today was an ordinary day, another day of handing out postcards and pushing flyers about Brooklyn Brings It to Bloomberg on every park-goer we passed (very important). It was just Kelena and I today, with a goal of 80 postcards each. Today, I had to the Long Meadow, my favorite area, tons of people.

The Prospect Park Youth Advocates Team Up with StreetFilms

On July 21, the Prospect Park Youth Advocates, we four the youngest employees at Transportation Alternatives, set out on another adventure of bringing support for a car-free park. Today was as any regular T.A. day (at least for us lucky employees who get to work in Prospect Park), with the exception of a surprise special guest we were to meet at 5pm. A mystery, but until then there was work to be done.

Free Iced Tea for a Car-Free Park

We, the T.A. Youth Advocates, had another day of getting postcards signed. Today's special was free Iced Tea, as long as you signed a postcard. We started the day, by of course making the Iced Tea, with two bags of ice and a huge container of Lipton Iced Tea Powder, which didn't take more than 15 minutes. We had this small, nice and little bicycle cart with this massive cooler on it, all attached to our manager's bike.
